BE OF HUMBLE SERVICE

HOMILY FOR THE 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OF YEAR B

Theme:

BE OF HUMBLE SERVICE...

R1: Wisdom 2:12,17-20

R/P: Psalm 53:3-6,8

R2: James 3:16-4:3

Gospel: Mark 9:30-37

*Our willingness and readiness to serve is what makes for greatness and fulfilment in life. No one is perfect! No one knows it all.* It is only an ambitious man/woman that considers himself/herself self-sufficient; and not needing God to live. Sing: "There is something that makes me come into your presence, my helper"/ "Tori na lese je Oluwa... Elese elewi... What you say you will do"

*Where do we find true greatness?* It is in your humble service to others, who cannot repay your kindness. *As children of God, Don't let jealousy and unholy selfish ambitions tear us apart. Indeed, "wherever you find jealousy and selfish ambition, you will find disharmony and wicked things done." (James 3:16)*

The world as we have it today is full of greed, jealousy, selfishness, backbiting and wickedness. *Hence, the person who humbly serves is seen as stupid and unwise.* The godless wants to rule and dominate others, by denying them of their rights to justice and peace. *Book of Wisdom 2:12 says, The godless say to themselves, let us lie in wait for the virtuous, since he annoys is us.*

*What is your ambition today?* What is motivating you and where is it leading you? As a child of God, do you work for peace and unity or are you another agent of division? What are you known for in your neighbourhood, community or parish?

Dear friend, you have no reason to be proud and arrogant, just be humble and live humbly. There is need to fight that pride, selfishness and greed, through the help of God. Indeed, our help is in the name of the Lord! *Make a U-turn today and seek to serve others in love and humility.* Sing: "All is have is given to me by the Lord..." God bless you and grant your good heart desires. Blessed week ahead.
